She was looking for food. Its been a dry winter and the usual foraging vegetation is sparce. Trash cans(bins) are a good food source for bears.

Humans have been feeding that bear obviously it’s to comfortable roaming in that area. When will people realize feeding wild animals will only contribute to their destruction. Many bears are just shot. I looked up the story from another source and it said “The bear was eventually tranquilized and taken to the nearest suitable forest habitat.”
I used to moan that as a country dweller I get ‘visited’ by rats, mice, badgers, foxes and birds of prey, along with the occasional weasel, squirrell, and…. escaped chipmunk. I shall never complain again….. So happy to read she was sedated than killed by some trigger happy macho playing hero. …hope she’s return to her forest where she can roam freely.
We just let our random black bear wander around for a few months until it finally figured a major metro area wasn’t quite a nice as the foothills it got lost from lol.
This is a very tree laden city so I’m not surprised the bear was happy at the large forested area woth the pond in the office park where my husband works. People were told to just not walk on the paths till it left. BBC

This was unnecessary chaos caused by the media. Bears come into this neighborhood all the time, especially Friday mornings because it’s trash day. Deer are also very common here.
The media endangered the bear and the public by bringing helicopters and gawkers to the area. It was irresponsible reporting. “A large, bear-like animal, most likely a bear, has wandered down from the hills in search of food or perhaps employment”.

In Ga we have them roam in the yards all the time, I had a 350lb one rip through my trash, there was a 700lb one down the road, new state record actually, we live in their area, if they are removed is when they are harvested but then the meat is eaten. I heard that its going to be put on the White House Lawn so that the orange ones son in law can shoot it dead and claim to be hero.
